BB Lane - Interview with Jennifer Vasquez

Jennifer Vasquez
02/23/2007 - BB Lane's Paradise interviews Jennifer Vasquez from Big Brother 6, who opens up and doesn't hold back! A big thanks goes out to Jennifer for the great interview with BB Lane!

Paradise: First of all I want to thank you so much for agreeing to do this interview with BBlane. How is Jennifer Vasquez doing post BB6? Was it difficult back in the real world upon exiting the Big Brother house?
Jennifer: I'm doing great since Big Brother ended! Right when I got out of the house, it took some time getting used to being with my boyfriend again and not seeing my fellow houseguests every day that I lived with for 3 months. I thought it was going to be bad out in the "real world" so I was a little freaked out being able to leave my house whenever I wanted and being in public. It felt weird to be out in the mall and having people screaming with excitement when they saw you or whispering "Is that her?" when you walk by. But after a few months, I was completely back to normal. As far as the slack I got from fans, it really wasn't what everyone thought it was going to be. I think I got a total of 2 fans actually approach me in a semi-negative way when I came home and about 3-4 emails on MySpace but that's it. Everyone's been really supportive and pleasant. Mostly, they're just excited to see someone that was on television even if they did root for the other team.

Paradise: Do you feel you got a bad edit in the house? Many of the Big Brother cast members have talked about diary room coaching and competitions being swayed towards desired houseguests, any thoughts on this?
Jennifer: I don't feel that I necessarily got a "bad" edit in the house. It was more like they just chose to show only the mean things and none of the good stuff about me and my friends. But that's a part of who I am and I'm not going to apologize for it. My sarcasm, dry humor, and bitchiness is the reason my friends and family love me so much. I don't hold back and tell it like it is. I'm probably the most open person that alot of people will ever meet. And yes, I do agree that there was some diary room coaching and competitions swayed but that all makes for good TV. People love to watch shows and be able to hate someone, love another, and laugh at a few or else they wouldn't come back for more. If you notice, alot of reality TV shows are like that...swayed for one or two people to come out shining in the end. I didn't mind that part of it...except when the diary room wouldn't like how I was answering and pestered me to change my answer. I was just finally like "Fine. What do YOU want me to say? [Blah, blah, blah] There! Can I leave now?!" LOL!

Paradise: Do you have any longstanding relationships that came from Big Brother 6?
Jennifer: When we first left the house, Beau, April, and I flew out to Vegas to visit Maggie and Eric a few months after the show ended. Then I went back to visit Maggie a couple of months after that. But my one and only long standing relationship that came from the house was with Maggie and that's fine by me. She was the best person to meet in the house (for me at least) and I just love her to death. I mean, I still talk/text/email Howie now and then. April and I were together ALOT in the beginning but I don't see or talk to her anymore. Eric and I would talk on the phone now and then but that also ended. Beau and I email occasionally. Rachel and I used to talk while the All Stars show was on. And I've talked to Michael on the phone once (through Howie). I do plan on making a trip out to California soon to visit our associate producer that was in the jury house with us. We became close being that I was the first one in the jury for a whole week by myself. I've already visited her once right after the show when I was visiting Dan.

Paradise: Would you do anything differently if you had to do it again?
Jennifer: I believe that everything happens for a reason and of course the outcome of the show would've most likely changed if I did do something different so I would have to say I'd keep everything the same. However, during the show, I did want to be apart of Kaysar's team since the beginning (probably since we were bonding from losing the surfboard comp together) but April refused and I just stuck by my partner (which was the point of the show or else we wouldn't have had a chance to win a million dollars). Also, I slighted regretted evicting Kaysar right after he left but only because I wanted James out equally as bad. Something not as important was CBS wanting to dye and cut my hair short after our pictures were taken because too many girls had long, straight, dark hair on the show with Sarah being a surprise houseguest at the last minute. So I wish I wouldn't have let them cut all my hair off. (That's why I had the curly pic and the straight pic back and forth...they couldn't make up their minds about my hair.)

Paradise: What did you think of Big Brother All-stars? Did you have the live feeds?
Jennifer: My parents' had the live feeds for All Stars so I would come over and watch every now and then. I thought it was ridiculous how the houseguests from my season were still talking about my group this past year on the live feeds. Guess they couldn't quite get over us or were still using us to gain fan support by trashing us. HA! I noticed that some of the houseguests before All Stars were Kaysar/Howie/Janelle fans while BB6 was airing but as soon as they lived with them in All Stars, they quickly became enemies. Just goes to show you that you don't know what it's like unless you've actually lived in that house. I thought it was funny to see how the Internet fans that were so supportive of Marcellas from his show turned on him during All Stars. Also, it was pretty ironic to see that Janelle and Kaysar both left at the exact same points in the game for BB6 and All Stars...guess it just wasn't meant to be afterall.

Paradise: Could you see yourself ever doing another reality show? Which reality shows do you watch?
Jennifer: I can't really see myself doing another reality show but I do think about some that I might have tried had I not been on Big Brother already. I don't watch much TV unless I'm visiting my parents' at their house. We mostly watch American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, and So You Think You Can Dance (mainly because my friend from Desperados, Ashlee, made it to the top 12). I tend to see the shows on cable like The Girls Next Door, Dirty Dancing, The Simple Life, and Janice (you know what)'s Modeling Agency.

Paradise: I see you have done some acting and also some behind the scenes work in the movie industry, which do you prefer? I have to ask, what was it like working with Luke Wilson as both of you were in the movie Idiocracy?
Jennifer: Working on Idiocracy was before Big Brother and it was the very first thing I had ever done entertainment wise. We were filming in Austin, TX so when we were eating lunch, Luke and I would talk about both being from the Dallas area. It was fun and Luke and Dax Shepard are really nice guys. I actually had this funny scene with Dax that he improvised but it wasn't kept in the movie. It was so funny the first time though that Mike Judge made us do it again. Oh well. As far as which I prefer (behind the camera or acting), I really don't have one besides the fact that you can usually get more days on set as crew which also means you are paid more and more often. I might enjoy acting more with lines but you need an agent for that in the film and television industry, and I refuse to get an agent. I have had lines in local and national commercials though and that was fun.

Paradise: Your modeling career seems to be in full swing; do you have any projects you would like to tell us about?
Jennifer: You know, growing up, I was always told I'd never make it as a model because I was so short but boy have I proved those guys wrong. I never in a million years expected to get more modeling jobs than acting ones but it's been alot of fun so far. The jobs I get come on a day to day basis so I don't have anything planned that's up and coming. The last national thing I did though was for AT&T Direct Mail. I never ask when or where things are coming out though...I just want to get paid. LOL! I usually keep my MySpace fan page updated with the things I DO get copies of so you can check that periodically.
