BB Lane - Interview with Davis Mallory
|
05/13/2007 - BB Lane's Paradise interviews Davis Mallory from The Real World Denver and currently on Inferno 3. BB Lane would like to thank Davis for taking time out of his crazy schedule to do this interview with us!
Post a comment on this interview

Paradise: How did you end up on the Real World?? Did you apply for any other reality shows
or was this your first?
Davis: I tried out for the Real World at an Open Call in Tampa, FL my senior year of
college. It was my first attempt at ever trying out for the Real World or any
reality show for that matter.
Paradise: What did you find the most difficult about staying in the Real World house? Is
there anything you missed once you were out?
Davis: I do not like authority that much, especially parents. Living in the Real World
house felt like I had 5 Moms and Dads since there were so many people to report to
if you ever wanted to leave the house. I didn't like having to wait 10 minutes
every time I wanted to go somewhere. I didn't like not being able to use cell phones
and other outside communication besides the house phone. I didn't like having to
wear a microphone all day long. There were many places we weren't allowed inside of
b/c they didn't permit filming like baseball stadiums, concerts, and even some cool
clubs and restaurants. I didn't like not being able to go to all the places I wanted
to. I missed my freedoms!
Paradise: Do you have any funny stories about things that may have not been aired in your
off camera time?
Davis: We never had off camera time, but there were some funny things that happened that
didn't end up on TV. For example one day when Jenn, Colie, Brooke and I were driving
to dinner, Brooke announced to the car that she had given me head the night before
when I was asleep. I said she was lying, but she swore up and down she did it. I
kind of freaked out on the ride over. She finally admitted she was just kidding by the
time we made it to the restaurant. I was sure that would make TV. Brooke also made a
funny song that said "Da-vis.... I got something Fo-r you! It's called a Va-gi-na!
Learn to Looove it!" We used to sing it around the house, but again, didn't make TV.
Some other really fun stuff though I expect to end up on the S#$% They Don't Show
Episode.
Paradise: You and Brooke became very close in the house, did you remain friends when the
show ended or do you think it was just a case of needing someone in the house?
Davis: Brooke has definitely remained one of my closest friends since the show ended. She
lives somewhat close to me in Nashville, TN (I'm in Atlanta, GA). So I've gone up to
see her twice. We also get booked on a lot of college speaking engagements together
and bar appearances due to our friendship on the show. When I'm not working together
with her, we stay close throughout the week on the phone. I talk to her most days of
the week.
Paradise: Explain a little bit about the house mates work with Outward Bound, it must have
been very satisfying helping those in need.
Davis: Outward Bound was by far one of the coolest Real World jobs I've ever heard of. It
was physically demanding, while instilling great leadership qualities. We hiked to
the tops of mountains with some of the most amazing views I've ever seen. We learned
to survive on our own in the wild for weeks, while cooking our own food and
filtering spring water. We were able to give back to a community devastated by
Hurricane Katrina. Overall it was a very rewarding job, and I believe everyone got a
lot out of it.
Paradise: One of the most heated nights in the Real World Denver house was when you and
Tyrie got into it, how hard was it to get past that?
Davis: Tyrie and I moved past the fight very shortly after it happened. It happened on the
second night we were in the house, so we had enough time to move on from it and get
to know each other better. Both of us were pretty drunk when it happened, and I
didn't even remember much of what happened to be angry about. It wasn't until I
watched everything on TV that I saw how the night unfolded. I was pretty horrified
with my behavior. I've learned a lot since the show ended and appreciate the unique
experience of watching myself on TV and learning from my mistakes.
Paradise: There has been talk that Real World is somewhat scripted, can you comment on this?
Davis: Real World is absolutely not scripted, although I'd love to say it was when some of
the boneheaded stuff I do makes TV.
Paradise: You were definitely a fan favorite on the RW Denver cast, what do you think it is
that people identify with and like so much about you?
Davis: I've been told one of the reasons people liked my character on this season of the
Real World was my honesty and admitting to faults and poor decisions. Otherwise,
you'd have to ask that questions to the fans. I do appreciate all the love though.
Paradise: On Inferno you had an incident where CT punched you in the face, could you tell
us a little bit about what happened?
Davis: I've posted a full length blog about the details of that night. Check it out though
on my myspace. (www.myspace.com/davismallory)
Paradise: As a newcomer you were nominated into the inferno, Alton saved you and risked
himself in the process. What did it feel like to be saved?
Davis: I really appreciated Alton saving me in the first Inferno. It meant that I'd at
least be guaranteed another week on the show. I wanted the experience of winning an
inferno though and soon regretted letting him take my place, as I believed I could
have beaten Tyrie in the first inferno. It was amazing winning one against Danny
though. It's quite the feeling going one-on-one against another competitor and
coming back to your team after. The night I beat Danny happened to be Halloween. I
knew that if I lost that inferno, I'd have to go sit alone on Halloween in a hotel
room. That was not about to happen. I got to dress up and party with the rest of the
house later on, which was definitely the best part of the win.
Paradise: How intimidating is it being a newbie to the Inferno?
Davis: Being new to this show and experience brought me a lot of apprehension. I was
worried about being "ganged up on" by older team mates. Being punched in the face
had never crossed my mind. My experience was kind of ruined after that first night,
and then getting voted into the first Inferno. I definitely would say I had one of
the worst first challenge experiences.
Paradise: What was your first impression of some of the controversial people such as
Tonya, CT and Danny?
Davis: I thought CT was a dick the moment I met him. I really liked Tonya a lot. She's so
interesting and different. The stuff she says always surprises me. Danny and I had
met prior to the Inferno. He came to speak at my college when I was in the running
to be on Real World. One of my college buddies dated Danny's sister, so we met and
hung out a bit before I went on the show. He's a good guy. One person who was a lot
different than I had expected based off of TV was Aneesa. She's really sweet and
caring and nice. They make her look tough and a little bitchy, which I never felt
was the case.
Paradise: What can we expect to see this season of the Inferno? Can you give us any dirt?
Davis: There are some random hookups coming up, especially on this week's episode between
Tonya and me. A few others might be expected, although I haven't seen many future
episodes. Some of the challenges are definitely some of the most unique ones I've
ever seen over the years.
Paradise: The teams are split into the good guys against the bad guys, is there anyone
that you think was placed on the wrong team?
Davis: I definitely felt that Kenny was a Good Guy and so was Danny, although he didn't
come off that nice on the show.
Paradise: It seems like when you join The Real World or Road Rules these days you are not
just going on a show, but choosing a way of life. Did you think about that ahead of
time and if so, did it factor into your decision on doing the show? How long do you
think you will live the MTV life? What lies ahead for you?
Davis: I definitely do not live the MTV life by any means. I pretty much hang out with
friends prior to the show or just friends I've made since moving back to Atlanta. I
try and stay in contact with friends I've made through Real World and the
Challenges, but I don't get consumed in everyone and everything about them. I'd say
I haven't changed that much. I'm thinking about getting my first 'real' job this
summer in Atlanta.
Paradise: This interviewer, for one, hopes his "real" job allows for some time on our TV screen as he is always wonderful to watch.
